About Harry P. Wolfe

Harry P. Wolfe has been a transportation planning professional Instructor_Wolfe for more than 30 years and a manager of a socioeconomic estimates and projections program for 18 years.

From 1975 to 1978, Mr. Wolfe was an aviation planner for the Illinois Department of transportation in Springfield Illinois. He was responsible for assembling the aviation component of a long-range transportation plan as well as the annual and five year airport construction program for the State. He also conducted research on airline deregulation, airport/land use compatibility, establishing airport priorities, and a variety of other subjects.

In 1978 Mr. Wolfe became the Airport and Rail Planning Manager for the Arizona Department of transportation in Phoenix Arizona. He managed the preparation of the State Aviation System Plan, a Statewide airport needs study, and the update of the State Rail System Plan.

In 1980 Mr. Wolfe initiated an independent consulting business. For the next three years he provided consulting services and performed studies for state and local governments. One of his projects involved the preparation of the State Rail Plan for the State of Oklahoma. He also prepared a method for evaluating the benefits of airport improvements using a return on investment approach.

Mr. Wolfe served as the Aviation Program Manager for the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) from 1983 to 2007. MAG is the regional planning agency for the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. with responsibility for coordinating transportation, human services, demographic and environmental planning for the region. During his tenure at MAG Mr. Wolfe managed the preparation of two updates to the Regional Aviation System Plan, a heliport study, an airspace study, and several land use compatibility studies.

In addition to serving as Aviation Program Manager with MAG, Mr. Wolfe was responsible for managing the socioeconomic program. He oversaw the development of long-range population, housing and employment projections for the cities and towns in Maricopa County. These projections are used as input into transportation models for forecasting future traffic levels and as input into the air quality models which are used to gauge compliance with federal air quality standards.

Harry P. Wolfe was an Adjunct Professor for Southern Illinois University from 1981 to 2004. He taught more than 100 courses in airport planning and aviation regulations at off-campus locations throughout the United States. He also taught graduate classes in aviation management for Arizona State University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Since 2002 Mr. Wolfe has been engaged in research to improve air transportation for older adults and persons with disabilities. He prepared a research report for the Volpe transportation Center of the United States Department of transportation on accommodating the needs of older adults in airport terminals. He has also made presentations on the subject in the United States, Canada, Japan and, Holland

Mr. Wolfe currently is a consultant on accessible transportation and demographic research, Secretary of the transportation Research Board Accessible transportation and Mobility Committee and a member of the Phoenix Disability Awareness Committee.
